WELCOME:
In the summer of 1944 the German Army Group Center was completely wiped out-can you maneuver Germans out of the biggest disaster on the Eastern Front?
The key for the success of Soviet Operation Bagration and the resulting destruction of the German Army Group Center was the difference in mobility:
The US lend-lease gave the Red Army more trucks than Germany made in the entire war. Suddenly Soviet Rifle divisions moved 200 km per day instead of just 2, any previous experience Germans had fighting the Red Army was now obsolete.
Meanwhile German Army Group Center had barely any Panzer or Panzergrenadier divisions left, many units were ordered to sit tight and hold stronghold cities in spite of nearby breakthroughs by Soviet Red Army, and Red air force and partisans limited movement in the rear areas.
End result of this difference in mobility: In less than two weeks, more German men and materiel had been destroyed than at Stalingrad over a year earlier.
VICTORY CONDITIONS: The object of the game is to avoid destruction of German Army Group Center and in the process reach control of 170 or more Victory Points (gained from cities). A total of 200 Victory Points available in this particular campaign. QUICK TIPS: Settings: You can change hexagon size, city icons, unit icons, and many other aspects from settings, or via the four round buttons in the upper-left corner of the gaming view. Unit markings: Lower left corner shows HPs (Hit Points), upper left corner shows the number of MPs (move points), right side has several type of markings: warnings on red, attached resources on white, ground information (what's under unit icon) is marked on green. Zooms buttons (Z) are located on upper-left corner. Combat core concepts: adjacent units critically support each other in battle: encircling is often more efficient than using brute-force direct attacks. TMP-system: By controlling Key Tactical Locations (green diamonds) you will gain TMPs (Tactical Move Points), which can be used to move between two hexagons sharing Tactical Route (yellow-green arrow between the hexagons) without losing regular MPs.
CAMPAIGN NOTES:
The object of the game is to avoid destruction of German Army Group Center and in the process reach control of 170 or more Victory Points (gained from cities). A total of 200 Victory Points available in this particular campaign.
German units have limited move points during the first turn to reflect the strictly defensive orders Army Group Center had received. Units near the city of Vitebsk might have additional limitations to their movement.
Second Army (located in Pripet area and south-west corner of the map) will be slowly added into play (not part of the initial Soviet attacks). Army Group Center will slowly be receiving reinforcements, mostly from the Army Group North Ukraine and some from Army Group North.
Key factor of this scenario: American lend-lease trucks allowed Soviet Infantry units never-before-seen mobility, while German Army Group Center had very few mobile motorized units and strict orders to hold the key cities to the last man. German mobility was additionally limited by the aerial superiority of the Soviet air force.
Soviet Guards Divisions exceptionally have two move points to reflect the increased mobility of the Red Army (thanks to lend-lease high quality US trucks.
Several special units (Sturm, Jaeger, Brandenburg, strong Kampfgruppe) as grouped into one special unit type using Mountain Troops icon (memory limitations).
Event: Campaign includes The Polish Uprising in Warsaw (assuming the player does not win extremely quickly) plus small scale partizan movement activity.
Some slightly incorrect military-history terms (like Fort for minor dugouts) are used simply because they are short (map won't be flooded with long text tags) and these terms are known to even non-native English speakers.
