It's 1945 and you are in control of the divisions tasked with securing the last Axis oilfields located in Hungary and Austria by both re-taking the city of Budapest and clearing the western side of the river Danube of the Soviet divisions which have formed a large beach-head reaching all the way to the Lake Balaton. Should you fail to secure these crucial last oilfields Germany would lose 80 percent of the remaining oil output dooming the defense of Berlin, and with the fall of Vienna the last remaining Axis partners would surely drop their weapons.

Eastern Front is a turn based strategy game set on the World War II Russian front. You are in command of the German WWII armed forces and the object of the game is to conquer the Soviet Union as quickly as possible.

-- Taking place from: 1945-03
-- Map size: 2000 = 40x50
-- Specials: Axis Defense of Hungarian Oilfields (Fuel ON/OFF option, unless you miraculously get a quick victory the campaign turns into horrific attrition battle as quality of your meager reinforcements drops)
-- Released: 2019-10, there is still active fight for the top spot in the hall of fame

Note: The entire fuel-element can be turned ON/OFF from Settings.

It's 1945 and you are in control of Axis forces tasked with securing the last Axis oilfields located in Hungary and Austria by both re-taking the city of Budapest and clearing the western side of the river Danube of the Red Army divisions which have formed a large beach-head reaching all the way to the Lake Balaton.

For Operation Spring Awakening (Unternehmen Frühlingserwachen) you have been given third of all the Panzer formations on the Eastern Front: two Panzer Armies strengthened with King Tiger battalions to launch two spearheads from both sides of Lake Balaton, while the third weaker attack will be launched from the South.

Although the situation in 1945 was desperate for Germans, just two months earlier the German Army successfully carried out similar offensive called Operation Southwind, clearing out another but smaller Soviet beach-head.

Should you fail to secure these crucial last oilfields Germany would lose 80 percent of the remaining oil output dooming the defense of Berlin, and with the fall of Vienna the last remaining Axis partners would surely drop their weapons.

VICTORY CONDITIONS:

The object of the game is to control the city of Budapest AND OVER 100 VPs (=Victory Points, which are gained from cities). A total of 100 Victory Points available in this particular campaign.

QUICK TIPS: Settings: You can change hexagon size, city icons, unit icons, and many other aspects from settings, or via the four round buttons in the upper-left corner of the gaming view. Unit markings: Lower left corner shows HPs (Hit Points), upper left corner shows the number of MPs (move points), right side has several type of markings: warnings on red, attached resources on white, ground information (what's under unit icon) is marked on green. Zooms buttons (Z) are located on upper-left corner. Combat core concepts: adjacent units critically support each other in battle: encircling is often more efficient than using brute-force direct attacks. TMP-system: By controlling Key Tactical Locations (green diamonds) you will gain TMPs (Tactical Move Points), which can be used to move between two hexagons sharing Tactical Route (yellow-green arrow between the hexagons) without losing regular MPs.

CAMPAIGN NOTES:

The object of the game is to control the city of Budapest AND OVER 100 VPs (Victory Points, which are gained from cities). A total of 120 Victory Points available in this particular campaign.

Note: If Supply Depots for Units are turned ON then Each turn each General offers either Build Hospital or Reset Supply Depot action.

Oilfields (orange diamond on map) are located west of the Lake Balaton and North of Hungary. Orange FU marker on unit when it covers an oilfield.

Capturing the city of Budapest will net player 4 X +1 HP Hungarian Infantry replacements, the city of Pecs will give 2 X replacements.

Fuel: Fuel Depots, Fuel Trucks, and motorized combat units can refuel from any oilfield. Note: Fuel can be turned ON/OFF from Settings.

Hungarian cavalry and armoured division (lacking tanks) included as Hungarian infantry.

The number of German Luftwaffe units is limited to reflect the bad weather, Soviet counter-measures, and the overall reduction of German aerial power in 1945.

There are total of 20+ reinforcement units for the Axis powers. Most of these reinforcement units, after the first dozen turns, are just infantry divisions, weak auxiliary, or Hungarian formations.

Some slightly incorrect military-history terms (like Fort for minor dugouts) are used simply because they are short (map won't be flooded with long text tags) and these terms are known to even non-native English speakers.
