Situation on 7th of August 1944: British and Canadian troops had tied down elite German units near Caen while the US Third Army had broken through from Normandy to Brittany via Avranches.
OKW saw that by advancing just 30 km (20 miles) from Mortain to Avranches they could cut off the First and Third US Army, but if the Allies hold off this German attempt they could encircle Germans in the Falaise area.
The only sure thing: At the end of this maneuvering either several German or American armies would be cut off.

WELCOME:
Situation on 7th of August 1944: British and Canadian troops had tied down elite German formations near Caen while the entire US Third Army had broken through from Normandy to Brittany via Avranches. However, German HQ realized that by advancing just 30 km (20 miles) from Mortain to Avranches they could cut off the First and Third US Army -- as Germans had fortified all the port cities, the Allied supply logistics still relied on Normandy beaches. This was a lot to ask from weary German units, but this was the absolutely last chance to contain the Allied landings in Normandy area, maybe even pushing the Allies back into the ocean, and ultimately change the course of the war. Surely throwing 8 battle-hardened Panzer and WSS Divisions against a small sector of the front line could push it forward a short distance of 30 km? In addition Germans committed all their Luftwaffe reserves into this undertaking, named Operation Lüttich. The Allies realized that if they could contain this last German attempt to take the initiative in Normandy and swing around the American forces which had broken through, they might be able to encircle the 7th German Army and the Fifth Panzer Army in the Falaise area.
The only one thing was sure: At the end of this maneuvering either several German or American armies would be cut off and that side would suffer losses measured in hundreds of thousands of men-the scale so far unprecedented on WWII Western Front. Do you have the skills and nerves to push exhausted the German Army forces to Avranches through the fierce Allied resistance and relentless bombardment while German flanks are crumbling all around you?.

Generals and Artillery might lose MPs from time to time due to chaotic German situation in Normandy. The Allied infantry in rear area might get extra MPs from time to time to reflect the comprehensive motorization of Allied forces.
The Allies had limited movement during the night turn (every fourth turn), while Germans are slowed down during the midday turn (every fourth turn).
Several Germans units had suffered heavy losses during the two months of fighting prior to Luttich and Falaise operations, this is factored in as a lower German replacements, some lost HPs, initial Fatigue, and overall weaker German units.
The main difference compared to Falaise Pocket campaign in which player control the Allies is that in this scenario Allied AI has some smaller additional units like antitank guns, tank destroyer units, and some Belgian/Dutch brigades.
Unused Night MPs and Luftwaffe strikes and Recon flights expire between turns.
Disbanded Pz VI Tiger tank units will result in PZ-IV replacements. Disbanded paratroopers will be regular infantry replacements.
US Divisions which have advanced to Brittany will emerge to the southern part of the in-play map.
There is a setting to switch how the HQ units are named (either Corps or Generals).
