You are in command of the American units hoping to strike through the German defense lines at West of St Lo and thunder all the way to the gateway city of Avranches, to break out to Brittany and southern Normandy. Six weeks after the D-Day landings, the Allies are still confined to a narrow beachhead in Normandy. But the moment for a decisive breakout has come. While British forces tie down German panzer divisions around Caen, the U.S. Army prepares Operation Cobra. First, waves of heavy bombers will shatter a narrow sector of the front. Next, American infantry will punch into the breach, securing ground before German defenses can recover. Finally, armored divisions will pour through, aiming to seize Avranches—the gateway to Brittany and the liberation of France.

C A M P A I G N N O T E S:

Victory Condition: Control OVER 100 Victory Points out of the total of 120 Victory Points available in this campaign. Victory Points (VPs) are gained from the cities.

Tip: The German Army is strongest on the eastern (right-side) edge of the map, so unless you wish to bog down into fairly pointless battles of attrition, it is much better to focus on the west-center sectors of the map when advancing southwards.

German OST and antitank gun units are distinctly passive, and by that I mean they do very few offensive actions, so more risks can be taken when operating around them.

There is no rule that the player must take the city of Avranches, located on the lower-left corner, but since Germans are weaker on the left side of the map, any sensible tactician will likely seize Avranches.

Variation of location of units. There is no separate setting to alter variation due to the small size of the map. Some initial frontline units have minor variation per each game, while rear area units have more variation on both sides.

It goes without saying that the Allied air power is not realistic, as that would effectively prevent most of the German movement and pulverize the units - and there wasn't much left to play or maneuver for.
