In the summer of 1942 Axis divisions in North Africa ran out of steam in front of El Alamein. Lacking fuel due to overstretched supply lines and Allied control of Mediterranean sea, the Germans and Italians could only brace themselves for the British offensive. Commander of the British 8th Army, Montgomery, resisted calls from Churchill to attack, and kept on stockpiling resources for a huge attack. Rommel knew that he could not do any grand maneuvering: his one defensive counter-strike with armored divisions had to be decisive to stop the Allied attack and prevent the collapse of Axis position.

Historical background: After the Italian collapse in North Africa German HQ sends in some German reinforcements, which spring from assumed defensive setup to a lighting fast attack across the area. In spite of serious supply challenges, Rommel manages to threaten the British strongholds of Cairo and Alexandria-Can you do better? To keep your armoured and motorized divisions on the move you must use Fuel Trucks to transport fuel from Fuel Depots to front line units. Fuel Depots can be refueled only from El Agheila (unlimited amount) or Tobruk (limited amount). Meanwhile only El Agheila and Benghazi provide food supply, so units must have a route to either of these cities after the British forces have moved.
WELCOME:
Pz Army Africa: 2nd El Alamein is a turn based strategy game which takes place in the North Africa during the Second World War.
Historical background: In the summer of 1942 Axis forces operating in North Africa ran out of steam in front of El Alamein while trying to advance into Egypt and seize control of Suez Canal. Chronically lacking fuel due to overstretched supply lines and Allied control of Mediterranean sea, the only thing Germans and Italians could do was to deploy minefields and brace themselves for the inevitable British offensive. Commander of the British 8th Army, Montgomery, resisted calls from impatient Churchill to attack, and instead relentlessly kept stockpiling huge amount of resources, eventually vastly overpowering Axis forces in every possible way. Rommel knew that the lack of fuel meant that he could not do any grand maneuvering, his one defensive counter-strike with armoured divisions had to be decisive to stop the Allied attack and prevent the total collapse of Axis position in North Africa.
VICTORY CONDITIONS:
The game ends when Axis forces control all 80 Victory Points.
QUICK TIPS: Settings: You can change hexagon size, city icons, unit icons, and many other aspects from settings, or via the four round buttons in the upper-left corner of the gaming view. Unit markings: Lower left corner shows HPs (Hit Points), upper left corner shows the number of MPs (move points), right side has several type of markings: warnings on red, attached resources on white, ground information (what's under unit icon) is marked on green. Zooms buttons (Z) are located on upper-left corner. Combat core concepts: adjacent units critically support each other in battle: encircling is often more efficient than using brute-force direct attacks. TMP-system: By controlling Key Tactical Locations (green diamonds) you will gain TMPs (Tactical Move Points), which can be used to move between two hexagons sharing Tactical Route (yellow-green arrow between the hexagons) without losing regular MPs.
CAMPAIGN NOTES:
Victory Conditions: The game ends when Axis forces control all 80 Victory Points (VPs), which are gained from the cities.
New type of terrain: # SA: Soft Desert Sand [SA]: Heavy units like tanks will lose 1 extra move point (= applies to non-infantry units).
Player can, from time to time, exchange 20 TMPs to one new Fuel Truck with 10 units of fuel in it, representing the emergency fuel Luftwaffe airlifted to North African battlefield from Crete.
Axis Fuel Depot, Fuel Truck, and Armoured units can only refuel from the city of Marsa Matruh. Trucks can also refuel from Depots, and combat units can refuel from either trucks or depots.
Artillery and Airforce units can only bombard enemy when they have Ammo, which can be re-stocked by using Ammo Trucks, which themselves can re-stock from Marsa Matruh.
Please note that the major element of this campaign is the German lack of fuel, reducing the amount of maneuvering you can carry out.
Italian and German Motorized units are considered infantry because of chronic lack of fuel. They might occasionally receive extra MP. Couple of the Corps-level Bersaglieri regiments (not part of any division) are combined to one Italian Bersaglieri division in this campaign.
Why German side: There are two major factors in the decision to make the campaign playable from German point of view: (1) More requests to play as Axis (2) Preliminary simulations showed that playing as the Allied side with huge numerical superiority (twice the men, fives times more good tanks, almost limitless fuel while Axis could barely move, etc.) made it quite easy to outplay the limited number of Axis units.
If you hang on long enough, player will get some Axis reinforcement units to represent German HQ decision to hold Tunis and to have a foothold in North Africa.
Cities include cities, villages, and some key natural spots. Hills cover anything from higher ground to actual mountains.
Axis side loses random MPs during the first turn and some during the second turn to represent the massive Allied offensive which destroyed a lot of the Axis communication network.
Removed Skills (as compared to Rommel And Afrika Korps game) since time scale is based on hours and days (not months and years).
TMPs start from a negative number to represent the limited reactions available for the Axis troops due to poor intelligence and heavy Allied artillery and aerial superiority.
Difficulty Level affects on the initial amount of fuel available and various other factors.
Some of the newer code mentions 'province', but since this small-scale game does not include actual provinces with borders, this usually implies to hexagons within the range of two from the city.
Impossible to name campaign: So, the app store rules prevent long names, and repeating the same keywords in several apps is not good. So if you ever come up with a great under-30-character name that implies panzers, desert, Alamein, and initial defense, then definitely let me know. Pz Army Afrika: Avoiding collapse at the Second Battle of El Alamein, but it has like 2.5X too many characters.
