American forces are tasked with taking back the control of Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, which fell to Japanese forces in 1942. Unlike the previous US attacks in the Pacific, which only required handful of units, the invasion of Luzon threw 10 US divisions plus guerrilla forces into the largest campaign of the Pacific war. MacArthur surprised the Japanese defenders, who expected attack in the Southern Luzon, by landing troops in the western Luzon (Lingayen Gulf) and immediately advancing south to seize the key airfields and liberate Manila city - the Pearl of the Orient.

WELCOME:
Battle of Luzon 1945 by Joni Nuutinen is a turn based strategy game set on the Pacific theater during the Second World War. You are in command of the American forces, tasked with taking back the control of the strategically and economically important Luzon-the largest island in the Philippines-which fell to Japanese forces in the spring of 1942. Unlike the previous U.S. attacks in the Pacific campaign, which only required handful of smaller units, the invasion of Luzon threw 10 U.S. divisions and handful of independent regiments plus guerrilla forces into the largest campaign of the Pacific war. MacArthur surprised the Japanese defenders, who expected attack in the Southern Luzon, by landing American troops in the western Luzon (Lingayen Gulf). By landing close to the main roads of the island MacArthur could instantly start to advance south to seize the key airfields and liberate Manila city-the Pearl of the Orient. In addition to the main landing, this campaign Includes multiple smaller landings, which can be turned ON/OFF from Settings.
VICTORY CONDITIONS:
The object of the game is to control all the 200 Victory Points as quickly as possible. After capturing airfield located near the city of Clark AF, player will start to receive U.S. Airforce Units. Handful of Guerilla units will emerge from the jungles as US troops gain control of the Luzon.
QUICK TIPS: Settings: You can change hexagon size, city icons, unit icons, and many other aspects from settings, or via the four round buttons in the upper-left corner of the gaming view. Unit markings: Lower left corner shows HPs (Hit Points), upper left corner shows the number of MPs (move points), right side has several type of markings: warnings on red, attached resources on white, ground information (what's under unit icon) is marked on green. Zooms buttons (Z) are located on upper-left corner. Combat core concepts: adjacent units critically support each other in battle: encircling is often more efficient than using brute-force direct attacks. TMP-system: By controlling Key Tactical Locations (green diamonds) you will gain TMPs (Tactical Move Points), which can be used to move between two hexagons sharing Tactical Route (yellow-green arrow between the hexagons) without losing regular MPs.
CAMPAIGN NOTES:
Victory Conditions: Control 200 Victory Points (VPs), which are gained from the cities.
After capturing airfield located near the city of Clark AF, player will start to receive U.S. Airforce Units.
Due to the US 6th Army getting units from other armies and doing extra secondary landings, the Corps structure was dynamic and change considerably. Both secondary landings are marked with a separate Corps number to unify in this particular scenario.
Handful of Guerilla units will emerge from the jungles as US troops gain control of the Luzon.
If the campaign continues for a long time some US divisions are assumed to be relocated to Luzon from Leyte.
Battle of Corregidor is not included in the campaign due to the area in question being an islet and supply would be a bit silly on an area totaling 1 hexagon.
Separate landings on Luzon are simplified a bit to keep enough units together to make supply flow possible and give player the option to land in a different location (and not being forced by the related airdrop to land in one spot).
Separate landings before and after the main land on nearby islands (outside Luzon) are not included in the campaign.
Some slightly incorrect military-history terms (like Fort for minor dugouts) are used simply because they are short (map won't be flooded with long text tags) and these terms are known to even non-native English speakers.
