When withdrawing from Philippines in 1942 General Douglas MacArthur made a promise: The US would be back! In October 1944 American forces made a bold amphibious landing on the island of Leyte, surprising the Japanese defenders who were expecting a landing on one of the southernmost islands. The surprising timing and location guaranteed US forces easy first weeks. However, Japanese HQ decided to settle the fate of Philippines on the Leyte and transported reinforcements from the nearby islands to Leyte. The combat on Leyte escalated into massive battle requiring US to commit all their reserves.

WELCOME:

Battle of Leyte Island 1944 is a turn based strategy game set on the Pacific theater during the Second World War.

You are in command of the American forces, tasked with taking back control of the Philippines. The U.S. forces make a bold and unexpected landing in the middle of the Philippines on the island of Leyte. This surprising move gives them time to consolidate the beachhead before the Japanese transport reinforcements from the nearby island to launch a counterattack.

VICTORY CONDITIONS:

The object of the game is to control 100 Victory Points as quickly as possible.

QUICK TIPS: Settings: You can change hexagon size, city icons, unit icons, and many other aspects from settings, or via the four round buttons in the upper-left corner of the gaming view.

Unit markings: lower left corner shows HPs (Hit Points), upper left corner shows the number of MPs (move points), right side has several types of markings: warnings on red, attached resources on white, and ground information (what's under the unit icon) is marked on green. Zoom buttons (Z) are located in the upper-left corner. Combat core concepts: adjacent units critically support each other in battle: encircling is often more efficient than using brute-force direct attacks. TMP-system: By controlling Key Tactical Locations (green diamonds), you will gain TMPs (Tactical Move Points), which can be used to move between two hexagons sharing a Tactical Route (yellow-green arrow between the hexagons) without losing regular MPs.

CAMPAIGN NOTES:

Victory Conditions: Control 100 Victory Points (VPs), gained from the cities.

Names are written differently depending whose maps and from what era you look at, so there might be some inconsistencies.

Time table of reinforcements on both sides have been tweaked to prevent unreasonably dull periods.

US troops are only supplied by supply ships, which land and become supply depots. Japanese troops receive supplies from towns (thanks to their hostile attitude towards locals).

Few small 4HP guerilla units will arrive. Leyte saw much smaller-scale guerilla activity compared to many of Pacific islands due to lower population density and limited number of armament.

Airforce units will arrive at the Airfield South-West of the city of Palo, so seizing and holding it is critical.

TIP: It is quicker to transport reinforcements north and south along the coastal line in Naval Transport Mode.
